Your Child's First Visit
We are excited to make every visit to Camden Pediatric Dentistry a special experience for you and your child.
What to Bring on Your First Visit
To prepare for your visit, please remember to bring the following items:
- A parent or guardian for your child *
- A Form of photo identification
- Your insurance card
- Any forms we have emailed or texted you, filled out completely (e.g., Social and Health History Form)
*If the parent is not present, a guardian must accompany the child with proof of guardianship. See “Important Information About Authorization” below.
What to Expect
Your child’s first visit is all about getting to know each other and making them feel comfortable in our dental office. We’ll take time to introduce your child to our friendly team, show them around our office, and explain what will happen during their visit in age-appropriate terms. Our goal is to create a positive experience that sets the foundation for a lifetime of good oral health.
During this visit, we’ll gently examine your child’s teeth and gums, assess their oral development, and discuss any concerns you may have. We’ll also talk about important topics like proper brushing techniques, nutrition, and cavity prevention. Most first visits last about 45 minutes to an hour, giving us plenty of time to ensure both you and your child feel comfortable and informed.
Comprehensive Examination
Our comprehensive examination is designed to give us a complete picture of your child’s oral health. This thorough yet gentle assessment includes:
- Evaluating your child's oral hygiene
- Teaching hygiene instructions
- Taking only necessary x-rays
- Examining for any existing decay
We believe in a conservative, preventive approach to pediatric dentistry. Our team will only recommend treatments that are necessary for your child’s oral health and will always discuss our findings and recommendations with you before proceeding.
* Important Information About Authorization
Please note that the person bringing your child to their visit at Camden Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics must be authorized to do so. For example, if the child’s grandparent or another adult accompanies him or her to their visit, that person must be authorized to give permission for treatment. If someone other than the parent or legal guardian is bringing your child to their visit, please ensure that you have provided written authorization to our office in advance. We cannot provide treatment without prior permission.
